Welfare Benefits

Claiming benefits can be very confusing. There are different types of benefits available and they can affect other benefits you are on.

People with brain injury can often find it difficult to meet the correct criteria for assessment, as it often focuses on physical disabilities rather than cognitive or executive problems.

Therefore it is important to seek advice and obtain information that can assist yourself or any of the agencies that may be helping you to complete the forms. This is especially the case when applying for Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

Headway produce a booklet, Welfare Benefits – after brain injury available by either contacting your local branch or contacting Headway UK, this booklet offers a step-by-step guide to completing your DLA claim pack.

It may also be useful to contact your local D.I.A.L who offer assistance in completing the forms or give advice on appropriate benefits.
